Let my longshoremen work! A tentative labor agreement has been reached with the dockworkers at all 29 West Coast ports, the Pacific Maritime Association announced last week. The PMA, representing the port operators and shipping companies, and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, representing the workers, agreed on a tentative 6-year contract. The dispute caused the largest terminal at the Port of Long Beach to be shut down last Monday. Disruptions were also reported at the Port of Los Angeles last week. Details were not released, but this is welcome news to logistics operators, SoCal IOS owners, and Amazon delivery recipients nationwide.

Realterm brings home the baguettes. Realterm announces the growth of its transportation logistics real estate platform in Europe with the acquisition of 5 Rue Georges Charpak, a 5,490-square-meter, cross-dock industrial outdoor storage (IOS) facility located on a 29,267-square-meter site in Libercourt, France. The advantageously located, high flow through property boasts 73 loading positions. Realterm has been on a tear in the EU, adding this position to their recent purchases in the Netherlands.
Alterra buys Garland, TX. Alterra IOS purchased a 13K SF industrial outdoor storage property at 3002 National Drive in Garland. The property was renovated to include a brand-new showroom and office to accommodate the tenant’s Texas operations. Little known fact about Garland: it was the filming location for Walker, Texas Ranger, starring none other than Chuck Norris. Little known fact about Chuck Norris, his first name is actually Carlos. I know this because I received a cease and desist letter from Carlos’ people after using his likeness in an apartment ad on Craigslist in 2016. Better than a roundhouse…

Indiana is the #1 inland port. Indiana ports have been ranked first among inland ports and second among Great Lakes ports in the federal port rankings. Both the Northern and Southern Indiana Port Districts had the 20th and 26th greatest cargo volumes nationwide, where the southern district led inland ports by over eight million tons over the Port of Pittsburgh, and the northern port handled 30.3 million tons falling short of Port of Duluth-Superior.
